Originally from Kentucky, Robert graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1995*. Upon finishing law school, he practiced law with a reputable insurance defense firm in Kentucky until moving to the Asheville area in 1997. After sitting for the North Carolina Bar, he was hired by one of the larger Asheville firms where he developed skills and experience handling complex construction lawsuits. He later joined a few of his former law partners in a small litigation firm in Asheville; there he concentrated his practice in construction law, complex litigation and insurance defense. In 2018 he opened his current office in Biltmore Park.
Since he became licensed to practice law in 1995, Robert’s practice has consisted primarily of civil litigation. He has handled hundreds of cases, from the simple personal injury case to complex construction cases where a single case might encompass dozens of parties, claims, and issues, and in at least one case, thousands of alleged building code violations. While his background is primarily as an insurance defense attorney and construction lawyer, his litigation experience is broad, and includes cases involving such matters as commercial general liability, insurance defense and coverage, contract and business disputes, catastrophic accidents, and of course construction litigation.
Since 1997, the bulk of Robert’s practice has involved construction law. This work includes such matters as contract review and preparation, representation of parties in pay and contract disputes, lien preparation and defense, construction defects, building code violations, licensing board complaints, and representation of parties in a myriad of other construction related matters. Most of his clients are owners, contractors and construction professionals, however, he also works for insurance companies. Robert is approved counsel for a number of major insurance companies and corporations. He is also certified with the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission to mediate North Carolina Superior Court Civil lawsuits.
